OOTD 2.6.2013 :: The Leather(ette) Option
I can’t think of many workplaces where leather-coated denim would be appropriate. If these pants are wrong, I don’t want to be right.

Outfits of the day will return next week. Until then, practice makes perfect. No amplifier needed.

It’s my favorite time of the year — layering time! There’s something so great about breaking out tall boots and putting on two or three (or four) tops as you get ready for the day. Of course I wasn’t quite ready for the significant temperature drop Sandy brought about. My winter coat is out a full month early! I’m volunteering around affected areas of the city for the next three days but today was an off-day, so I wrapped myself up in lots of layers and headed out to run some errands.

For the next few days, I’ll be OOTD’ing my winner’s haul from the AG Jeans Lucky FABB contest. If you’d like sizing reviews of the items I’m wearing head over to my other blog, Effortless Anthropologie. And if you want to see the many ways I rock my AG Jeans, check out my past looks.

One great thing about being on sabbatical (which has been more active than my working life!) is that I make my own hours, so I can be flexible to my friends’ schedules. A favorite pastime is to schedule lunch dates with friends and meet them somewhere up by their offices.

The problem with being a personal shopper is that sometimes when you style an item for someone else, you end up selling yourself on those same ideas. Although I’ve been out of the professional styling game for about a year due to my hellacious work schedule, when former clients ping me for help I never say no. Loyalty and all that.

It’s time to celebrate the small victories in life, like hair conditioner. My hair is very fussy in NYC…likely due to a combination of taxi rides that make you wonder if you’re evading the police, water pressure that recalls that one massage that it took two weeks to recover from and the freelance client who keeps calling every 5 minutes asking when your project will be done, even though the answer isalwaysby end of day. No seriously. By end of day. Please stop asking.

Over the weekend I started packing for Hawaii (I leave on Saturday, hallelujah!). I am totally overpacked right now — par for the course. And I love every single thing in my suitcase. There’s nothing I want to take out. I guess I could take out a floppy hat (or two) and maybe I don’t need to bring so many maxi skirts but, well, you know. I don’t live near a beach anymore so any opportunity to wear beach clothing must be fully exploited. I am in full-on vacation mode and my brain has gone somewhat numb.
OOTD 9/5/2011 :: Day of Rest
Labor Day seems like a pretty good time for the return of OOTDs, no?
It’s the unofficial end of summer and I plan to be as lazy as possible today before the back-breaking season starts up again. Considering how busy my life has been lately I’m a little scared at the thought of even more work than I already have. Hopefully it all pays off in the end.
This look is actually from a couple of weeks ago. I wandered around the Union Square Green Market looking for the perfect plants to fill my new planter. In reality it’s a salad serving bowl shaped like a pig that I picked up during a recent visit to Momentum in Boulder, CO. I of course promptly proclaimed the pig bowl a ‘he’ and named him Bob. The trip was a success! I found a nice mix of herbs (thyme) and succulents to fill Bob up. Here’s hoping the plants somehow stay alive in my apartment’s mostly indirect sunlight.
Enjoy a few more similarly posed shots below. I can’t help my blogger tropes.

Nothing but the Sunday best for shopping with my friends! Even with temperatures above 90 degrees I chose jeans over a skirt — quicker on and off in the fitting room.

The necklace was an impulse buy from J.Crew. One of the things I love about it is the chain with easy length options — choker, medium length or long chain. The brassy orange color of the piano key stones make for a light-catching stunner.

On Sunday, a few of my friends who live much too far away converged on the city for a day of shopping. We had a great time cruising around midtown (Barney’s, Bergdorf’s, Bendel, etc.) before heading down for a walk along twisting, windy Bleecker St. And of course we stopped at J.Crew and Anthropologie.
It was fantastic to catch up with some gals I hadn’t seen in over a year as we settled right back into our old habits. I admired clothing much too expensive for our budget. My friend Jenn was obsessed with trying on sunglasses. Our pal Biendi was all about asking salespeople what customers before us had purchased. We took lots of pictures of the city but almost none of ourselves. We were still out and about after the sun went down.
When it was finally time to return home I had that refreshed, enriched feeling from spending time with awesome people. My ideal week is one of Saturdays and Sundays with no other interruptions. Real life shots coming later today!
