OOTD 2.29.2012 :: Sticking with a good thing
Man, being 30 is so weird! It’s like hitting the reset button on your console to move forward in the game. I love it, I know that. Like any milestone year there’s some introspection happening. Have to admit that I’ve spent the last month or so examining my life a bit and figuring out where I’m happy with myself and what needs work. I am by nature a social butterfly but I realized that I had been isolating myself for awhile…why I’m not sure. So it was time to get back out there! Meet new people and see old friends.
Last night I met up with some good friends I hadn’t seen in awhile. We had met at my last job and have kept in touch even though it’s been almost 5 years since one of them left and more than 3 years for me. The third is still there. While I don’t miss the job I miss the people I worked with greatly. It was a small company where just about everyone got along, and when I moved down to NYC those people were my family. I keep in touch with many of them. Seeing those wonderful ladies last night was a breath of fresh air. As we traded stories about our families, friends and goings on I felt my anxiety of recent days melt away. It helps that they give great advice. When you find a good thing you should stick with it and these ladies are good friends.
The same premise goes for clothing. I was first introduced to this Twinkle by Wenlan dress shape via Anthropologie’s famous Flight of Swans Dress. While I don’t own that variation I’ve since purchased a navy version (3rd look down in this post) and now this crosshatch version I recently picked up via Hautelook. The silhouette is very flattering on this day-to-night dress. I’m sure I’ll get plenty of use from it. One odd thing is that each version of this dress has fit me differently. I wore a 6 in the Flight of Swans dress comfortably. An 8 in the navy version barely allows enough room to breathe. And I’m positively swimming in the 8 of the crosshatch version in this OOTD. Some tailoring is in order for sure.
As a finishing touch on this cold day I’m wearing J.Crew’s Traversa Cardigan. It nips in at the waist nicely with ruffles a’plenty. Shape and ruffles? Two of my favorite things.
