OOTD 1.30.2012: Wayward Westward

I’ve been a Kate Spade lover for a long time, mostly digging the brand’s fun & flirty clothing over the bags. That all changed recently. When the Westward Collection was announced last summer I was immediately drawn to the Wanderlust Satchel, a bag that simultaneously fed my desire for a camera bag (with room for my iPad to log/edit the photos), cool faux ostrich and sweet, sweet suede. To my delight, I was surprised with the bag as one of my Hanukkah presents. Its first use was a short trip up to Vermont to visit some friends.

We had flown to Vermont from the city. On the way back, the tiny plane barely had room for any carry-ons…and I had two. The airline asked me to check a bag and with apprehension I chose to check the Wanderlust. Already anxious about flying, checking the bag made me fret the entire way back and once we landed I probably bowled over a few people on my way to baggage claim. My worst fears were confirmed when I watched everyone else’s luggage eventually round the carousel…and my brand new satchel never cleared the conveyor belt’s airport entrance. It had somehow gotten lost.

I know it’s just a bag. In the grand scheme of things a bag is a trivial item. But losing it made me upset. I called Kate Spade’s customer service, I even tried Gilt Groupe since they’d recently had a sale including the Wanderlust. No luck. And so I resigned myself to the fact that several days was probably all I’d have with the satchel of my camera-toting dreams.

A few weeks later I was casually surfing my Shopbop ♥’s list and what did I see back in stock? The Kate Spade Wanderlust Satchel. After some hemming and hawing I decided that though still very expensive on sale, I wanted the bag enough to buy it. And so my wayward Wanderlust has returned to me. I don’t want to think about how much this bag cost between the original gift-giver and me rebuying it…but I’m happy to have it on my arm once again.

Have you ever lost a favorite piece of clothing, or an accessory like me? Did you replace the item or decide to move on to something else?

I’m fighting a fun stomach flu at the moment, so today’s OOTD is all about shuffling from bed to the doctor and back again. Anthropologie has a bit of a tennis theme right now, with the Racquet & Net Chemise I’m wearing, the Grass Court Dress and the Trinket Flats all featuring tennis rackets on them. One long cardigan later, I’m ready to bounce from bed to bones.

In this outfit:
Anthropologie Racquet & Net Chemise
Anthropologie Stand-In Slip, ivory layered under the chemise
Anthropologie Incantation Cardigan
Hue Opaque Tights in black
Vince Camuto Autumn Boots
American Eagle shell necklace and earrings (old)
