OOTD 11/7/2011.

With cooler weather back upon us it’s time once again for layers. I love layers! Anything that allows me to wear more clothing I love out the door is a good thing…though there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. (I’m looking at you, winter.)

Maxi skirts aren’t really my thing. Sometimes you can fall in love with surprising things, as was the case with Anthropologie’s Lengthening Rays Skirt. The brownish-red color is just asking to be invited on a chilly stroll through Central Park. I can’t resist such temptations. The challenge with maxis are two-fold for me: making sure the skirt is long enough for my long legs and figuring out what to wear on top. I’m short-torso’d so accentuating my legs makes for a challenging balancing act up top.

I eventually figured out two looks I’m happy with for this skirt. One, for warmer fall days, includes a draped top that draws the eye upward with a leather jacket for the modern touch. And then the more classic ski resort town look comes from a thermal with a vest worn over. A reader over on EA asked me for some vest options so I’ve got three: a faux furry vest, a classic puffer vest and a more modern puffer.

Thermal + vest option 1: the faux furry. Warm, comfortable, wintery.

Thermal + vest option 2: the classic puffer. Understated urban utility.

Thermal + vest option 3: the modern puffer. Ready for a ski town weekend.
(Can we talk about how pretty this skirt is in motion? Gorgeous.)

To keep this look from feeling boring, I added some trendy boots for another twist. The covered heel is barely visible under the skirt but I know it’s there.

In this outfit:
Strawberry Leather Moto Jacket

Anthropologie Drape & Twist Tee

Anthropologie Lengthening Rays Skirt

American Eagle Cozy Graphic Thermal (worn inside-out)

Vest 1: LOFT Chunky Cable Vest with faux fur (this year’s version here)

Vest 2: J.Crew Classic Puffer Vest (this year’s version here)

Vest 3: Esprit Winter Puffer

J.Crew Edie Purse in Italian calf hair

Anthropologie Distant Maps Bracelet
