OOTD :: A little splurge
Over in my other blog world, we’ve been talking about the art of the shopping lemming. It’s that item that you see on someone and suddenly need. The craving grows more and more as you see more people talk about, wear it, own it, whatever.
Normally I’m the opposite — I tend to stay away from what everyone else is doing. I know that doesn’t quite jive with my purchases from mass market stores, but my hope is always that I’m presenting them in ways that are uniquely “roxy” until my budget or patience level returns to a point where I can begin seeking out the truly unique. (That is part of the reason why I’m a bit happily unsettled when someone aspires to the look. No! It’s mine!)
Recently though I found one item worthy of the craving: J.Crew’s Edie Purse in Italian Calf Hair. I first saw the purse on one of my fashion discussion boards, where another member was asking for opinions on the red leather version. I like that version but the calf hair bag really sang to me. Late last month I decided it was worth it to me at full price.
I couldn’t be happier with this little bag. It’s such a classic design that works well with a modern skinny jean and oversized sweater, a work dress, an evening dress, just about anything except the most casual look really. I hope the quality endures as I feel this will be a piece I have for years to come. I think J.Crew themselves summed up my feelings on this bag pretty well in their newest catalogue.

Yes, that is how this bag makes me feel. For this specific look I chose a more casual day dress. I like the mix of high and low — too much dressiness here would look forced.
